I am, or was, a scrivener. Yes, like Bartleby in a sense, but with a law license (which I placed inactive for medical reasons) and a skill for precise writing. In my 40 years of law practice, I have ghostwritten statutes, regulations, and briefs argued in civil, criminal, and appellate cases, edited and ghostwritten jury practice texts, a how-to-be-a-new judge, and hundreds of drafts for decisions in administrative-level disputes. If you are an introvert lawyer and weary of the clash and argument on a daily basis, and love the language. Instead, you too could have a small, usually quiet office in a governmental or legal information entity that, if your dreams of yachts and Ferraris are cut loose.
